Kick start required. Any takers?

***You need to know I haven't made any of the blocks shown below. These were all done by clever sewingy people***

After languishing for a loooooooong time I am finally making an actual attempt to make a quilt from my 'Around The World Christmas Block Swap'. These are the blocks already made
so now I just need to fill the gaps.

The plan is to complete the red and white rows and have the quilt run horizontally rather than vertically. Where the kick start comes in is what blocks do I make? I have thrown out the REVOLTING log cabinish thing I made to start with bc it was beyond awful and far above nasty on the Yuk scale and the block inspiration that got me through the ATWCBS seems to have long since dissiapated. Any hints? Any clues? Suggestions? Direction? I will take anything. Pleeeeeeease.

  1. I'm not the one to ask unfortunately, I am not a quilter, and I lost my craft mojo quite some time back (if you see it, will you give it a kick up the butt and sent it back to me please!)
I am always impressed at the quilts I see and in awe of the creativity, perseverance and skill of the quilters. Looks like you are off to a good start. I am totally impressed.

  2. I work with a girl who says she is a quilter, but what she does is buy the fabrics and (usually) a pattern and gets someone else ($$$) to create it for her. And she calls herself a quilter!!! What the? How does THAT work?

  4. Hmmm. I don't think you can ever go wrong with a simple churn dash -- how 'bout one of those? And here's a website that you could browse and pick out some other blocks that you like. A picture and a piece of graph paper can take you anywhere!!! Good Luck -- those blocks are a fab start so far!

  7. If it were me, I would alternate those gorgeous quilted blocks with plain fabric and get it finished this weekend... because otherwise, knowing me, it would languish in the back of a cupboard for all eternity.

  8. Hey Trash! Hmmm ... I'd go for a few simple, quick-to-do raw edge applique blocks to even out your numbers to a good size, then add some plain coloured sashing and borders ...or a tone-on-tone sashing. Another suggestion that might work even better (and quicker!) a friend of mine made several table runners from some Christmas swap blocks she received, matching similar coloured blocks together. Will wait with baited breath to see the results! :0) Happy sewing - Bear Hugs! KRIS
