Have nearly finished the top for a Christmas quilt for a special girl in the lives of those
Chez Trash Towers. I bought the coloured star fabrics at lubbard Spotlight near Sylv's house and married it to some bright white cotton curtain lining from the old-fashioned haberdasher's around the corner.I love the bright colours against the white and I really love them both made up as wonky stars. My problem is with layout.
You see, I bought seven colours which is all well and good but my quilt is five blocks by three. My basic maths confirms that this would equal 15 squares. Unfortunately this is a problem in that my basic maths also confirms seven colours doubled up only equals 14 blocks. So we came up with a plan. And this is where you all come in.
I made a rainbow wonky star and have tried it in two different spots in the quilt. What I would like would be for you all to pitch in and tell me which you prefer.

absolutely GORGEOUS quilt top. so so brilliant - love the colours, the stars, the white....
ReplyDeleteabsolute quilting loveliness. i want one!
i also think your third option sounds good - the surprise feature on the back would just top it off.
Just LOVE the quilt ... SO bright and cheery, fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteI reckon you could either pop it in the middle (the rainblow block) or do your last option and make a 3rd purple one for the front and put the rainbow one on the back ... you could even incorporate it in your label!!!
Hugs,
Joy :o)
I'd go with centre, or your third option of inculding it in the backing.
ReplyDeleteLove how the stars pop against the white!
Middle. This is fabulous. Love the spots.
ReplyDeleteI like it in the middle with the third purple on the back...........??? Looks awesome, I love wonky stars...

I'm going to suggest another place altogether - put it in the fourth position on the long side of the quilt, so in the top photo it would go where the light blue star is. That way it's not symmetrical, which fits the whole wonky theme.
ReplyDeleteLucky girl.
I like the 3rd option.
ReplyDeletelooks great!!!
In the middle if it has to go on the front... but I like the idea of your third option.
ReplyDeletedefinitely in the middle - and it looks fantastic!!!

Either leave it in the middle or go with your gut and pop it on the back.
ReplyDelete(That would probably be my gut feel too)

Your quilt is brilliant! Leave the rainbow star in the middle and make a second purple star into a pillow to go along with the quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove those wonky stars - lucky girl! And I DEFINITELY vote for Suse's fourth option. I knew that girl was brilliant! ;-)
ReplyDeleteEither your third option, or what Suse suggested. Any way it looks gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteWEll, I think all the options sound good - but I'd go for the rainbow one on the backif pushed.
ReplyDeleteHowever..... I'm wondering..... can I have the whole quilt please????
Just asking is all ;-)

Holy guacamole - that is one gorgeous quilt!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you can go wrong with any of your ideas, but I'm partial to your third choice.
Again:
WOW!
Oooh - it's gorgeous! I think your third choice is the way to go, as the Elmer the Elephant coloured block would be a lovely surprise on the back of the quilt.

p.s. is it for me? I'm sure it must be.
It's lovely! I like the Suse option too, I like a spot of a-symmetry. Well done you. xxx
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt - like the third option best myself. No Moogsmum, I think you have it wrong. Surely it's for me.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!!!! Probably the third option! Lucy xxx
