Other things since May.

As always life goes on happening whether we blog or not and so it is here on my Hilltop. Like so many others I have succumbed to the siren call of Instagram and (for a little bit) Twitter, where I became best mates with Marian Keyes and her good pal Paul Dunphy. But I never gave up on blogging, rather it just took an extended break from me; especially over this last weekend where for 24 hours I lost it completely. POOF! Gone! Empty blank space underneath my URL. 'Salright though, it came back when I pressed some more buttons and read the help manual.
So since May we seem to have done lots of cool stuff. And by me I mean my two not-so-smalls. My boy sang in a 1200 strong choir at the Royal Albert Hall. There is a complicated side-story to this but we can leave it with the glossy pics of singing along with an international rock band at the RAH.
The Royal Albert Hall is a stunning venue filled with historical blah, blah, blah, blah - look at the cool baffles they had on the ceiling! The singing and interpretive dancing to the singing not withstanding these were the BEST bit of the evening! HUGE white spheres bathed in rainbow light floating high above us.
Then just before the end of the school year in July I received an email from my girl's school saying that she was to receive a sports award. I was this close [] to emailing back to ask if they had confused her with another Girlchild. A sports award?!?! But no, turns out it was true. She received a colourbar for her climbing skills as well as participation and commitment to the school's Climbing Club. Then the Boychild received a letter from the Secondary School inviting him to attend the Sports Awards as he would be receiving one too! All the local Primary Schools had been asked to nominate the two most deserving athletes, it was awarded for sportiness AND good sportsmanship. What made it doubly delightful was his bestie received it as well :-)
And my girl was finally inducted into the next level of Scouts up here on our Hilltop. Having joined them back in December she is now officially an Explorer.
She has also signed up for Duke of Ed and will spend the next 12 months working toward her bronze award. So far this Summer she has been helping out at the official Scout campsite in the county and at local community events. As well as skillbuilding it is an effort to raise her profile in the hope that it will be she (and not the mean girls who are STILL at Explorers) who will be picked to attend Scout Jamboree 2015. Imagine being 16 and spending three weeks in Japan with a bunch of Scouty mates?

Oh yeah. And I got a job.
