imagining .....

..... is my favourite thing. Finding a spark that lights a creative fire. A sound or sight creating the desire to seek out other new things. Seems to me that so often as we age we lose 'imagining' and make ourselves fit into the section titled
'expected'.

'Expected' is necessary I grant you, and is sometimes extremely useful, but I watch people refuse to let themselves take part in the flight of fancy with the toddler who is convinced she has ridden a moonbeam to a distant planet. 'Expected' can be quite sad. Not wanting to sound too Pollyana-ish but 'imagining' lends itself to growth and development. However old you are imagining is fun, the stars are within your reach and even if you did look silly do we really care what the rest of the world thinks? No! So please over the coming weekend take time to let your imagination come out to play, watchthe clouds, lean across a stranger's fence and literally smell the roses. Sometimes a box isjust a box and others it can be a swamp, a jungle, the desert, anything you choose.

  1. I loved when my parents bought an appliance when we were kids! It was like Christmas whenever we got one... we played in it so much that it would be in shambles by the time it hit the garbage can!

  3. My kids constantly preface their sentences with "just pretend". Love it!

  4. Perhaps I can imagine that the ironing fairy really is real and I'm not going to have to tackle that entire pile all by myself ...

We're heading into minibeast heaven today - should be lots of imagination in use!

  6. Your littlies look so little in those photos! How old were they? Or have you perfected the magic potion that makes them go cutely small again? If so, can I have some!!!

I love listening to Daisy and Fred's imaginary play - sadly Dot has grown out of it now :o(

  7. There is nothing like the imagination of a child at play. So very many possibilities in every situation.

This weekend I will try to harness my inner child and let my imagination soar.. thanks!

  9. Box.. what box? All I see is a spaceship waiting to take off or is it a secret cave? I think I am liking the imaginary world a whole lot better than the real one.

  11. Oh I love imagining. Yes, i May tend to be the expected but I can't go by it everyday. I need to have that moment where thoughts can ran wild and sometimes go to make-believe world. I know it's funny sometimes but it's fun.

  12. Children and boxes are the perfect combination. Have you read "Educating Esme"? Same theme from a teacher's perspective. Nice!

  13. There's nothing quite so exciting as an empty box is there? The box our new cooker came in a while back lived in our living room for about 6 months in various incarnations including a car, a plane, a puppet theatre and a space rocket. Boxes rock!

  14. having said that, there *IS* a fine line between "creative & imaginative adult soul in touch with her inner child" and "big giant weirdo"...i know this b/c it's a line i've been regularly jumping over with both feet most of my life!!! :) :) :)

(this is why i spend more time with the nieces than any other members of my family...grown-ups are just SOOOOO flippin' DULL!!!) ♥♥♥
