So ... this Christmas present ...

After many many years of waiting and thinking and planning it seems that reality is defintely being split asunder. My Christmas present from CK this year was the go ahead to do the kitchen extension that is so desperately required.

And really really wanted.

A lot!

And it seems, despite possibly my experience to the contrary, that man has just two speeds - sofa and GO! Only two weeks into the new year and we have the funding in place, an architect nearly lined up, a more in-depth knowledge of our local planning office than I would have believed possible and a general agreement on what 'we' want from this build. Please bear in mind when you read this that it is nearly 13 years since we moved in and this has been fermenting for me for at least 11 of those. Oh hell! Who am I trying to kid? 13 of those.

So this is our New Year jaunt, our step into the abyss of 'newbies extending the house', my definition of hope and sheer bloody-mindedness. Come watch the renovation car crash here in Trash TV.

Going to need loooooooots of help when the time comes for layout, design, etc, etc.
Feel free to pitch in as you see fit. I am listening to everything.

  1. Oooh, how very exciting! Think of all the fun you'll have picking out all the new goodies. We need to make cosmetic changes to our kitchen but I just can't get motivated to withstand the chaos that will occur. Good Luck with your new adventure!

  3. So, have you called Kevin Whatsisface from Grand Designs yet? Because, really, this is the best chance you'll get to lure him into your home. Or is that just me?

  4. Wow. Ok so now you have your man organised for a new kitchen - want to start on mine...the man that is...vbg. I already know what I want in my kitchen.

Ohh if it was me - work on drawers. Lots and lots of drawers.Big drawers that hold heaps. Easier to access as you get - ahem - older and you can see what you have in them at a glance. Much easier than cupboards. Just my five cents worth. Doing the happy dance for you.

Just remember - bathrooms and kitchens always take twice as long as the original estimate!!!!!

  10. DC can keep Kevin out of Grand Designs. I think you need an observatory built in to the plans. Then you can get Dr Brian Cox round your gaff. Could you perhaps invite me for a cup of tea whilst he's there, please? I need to do some important research.

  11. HA! *all* men have those two speeds...tho some also come with sofa-L (actually ASLEEP) and "overdrive" which is GO at speeds even a hyperactive squirrel finds exhausting. but in this case, with the chance of a NEW KITCHEN...wahey...overdrive is GOOD!!! ♥♥♥

  12. Very exciting! When we remodeled our kitchen, it was very hard on our marriage! Hubby was very frustrated with the slowness of it all. Patience, patience, patience. And keep your eye on the goal. Best wishes!
